Archaeo-Prep Nearing Completion

Continuing to dig downstream as far as the brick wall inset across the tailrace bed, it seems to continue on a chalk stone bed with the containing walls also set on large chalk 'bricks'. In the far corner are the metal fixings similar to those upstream for the wooden crossbeams.

In these few weeks a huge volumne, an estimated 40 to 50 tons of accummulated mud and silt, rocks, gravel and debris have been removed. We are reluctant to dig deeper trenches or further downstream beyond the wall now without archaeologists present or, at least their advice.
